I animated some characters for this project in late Summer 2020 and had since assumed it was cancelled due to COVID. Coincidentally, a friend of mine was describing this crazy hydraulic VR experience that she did last weekend and how cool it was. It sounded pretty familiar so we looked it up and sure enough not only did the project launch but it was already over by the time I learned about it... Oh well. At least I heard good things.

It's been an absolutely insane 12 months. I'm thinking back to this time one year ago and I had just left Fuse to work in Atlanta. I was at Fuse over three years and had a really good experience overall. I just wanted to try to move closer to family. Unfortunately Atlanta didn't really meet my expectations and I decided that for now it made more sense to stay in Los Angeles. I started working for Method almost immediately when I got back to LA. That went all the way through COVID when everyone started working remotely. I've been on and off there since and doing short projects for Titmouse, Alkemy-X and Pure Imagination in between. Originally I expected to be out of work for a good amount of time, which would give me a chance to work on some personal projects. Of course now it's October and that hasn't really happened. I'm thankful to have a lot of people who want to work with me.
Of course this is all set against the backdrop of the year 2020, my opinion of which I wouldn't even get into here, with some personal crisis I've been dealing with on top of it. ...Well, all things considered, I'm doing OK. As the apocryphal curse goes, these are interesting times.
I was asked to present the Ub Iwerks award to Ton Roosendal this year at the Annie Awards, due to my activism for it at ASIFA-Hollywood. Proud to have been able to do this, even if I find myself a little awkward on stage. Also I forgot my pocket square!
Here's a nice article at FXGuide about the new Executive VFX Supervisor at FuseFX, Jim Rygiel. They wrote about the studio pipeline in general with a nice line about our animation work.
Our VFX Supervisor gave an interview on SyFy Wire about the VFX work we did on the first half of Season 1 of The Tick. There's a neat breakdown reel and some cool info right here.
A VR project we developed assets for was released on Steam just a few days ago. You can find it for free here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/608000/ Below is a short cut of the experience but obviously you really need a VR headset to appreciate it. I believe they credited me as a "VR Artist" on this project.
I got the chance to work with the awesome people over at Plastic Wax on the latest Civilization trailer. They asked me if I could help them out grooming the hair on the little girl and when I found out it was for Civ VI I was super pumped to be part of it. I'm a huge fan of the games and I think the trailer has been very well received. Congrats, everyone!
I animated some creatures in the last two episodes which you can currently watch on CBS.com. I don't know how long they keep the episodes available online but I'm linking to them for the record.
He stopped by for a bit last Wednesday with a small entourage to pat us all on the back. There were bagels! You can read more details in the Animation Magazine article.
Very excited to have started my first day at Fuse FX in "Sherman Oaks" (but really Van Nuys). The new space they just moved into is gorgeous, and so far everyone has been very cool. It feels good to be back at it after a long vacation. I think I've got my enthusiasm back.
